29 Toothpick Structure

The purpose of this visit is to build a toothpick structure that can carry a lot of weight. We only used white glue and 29 toothpicks to build a structure that can hold and balance a series of books.

Trial 1

For the first trial, my teammate and I succeeded in balancing 11 books. Our initial design was to put toothpicks like a triangle. The joints weren't balanced and we just decided to do completly different model and stucture. It was strong but not balanced. So, for trial 2, we decided to make a cube.

Trial 2

For trial 2, compared to trial 1, we changed everything. We made a cube. However, it only held 5 books, 6 less than the first structure. We saw that the members were slightly crushed.

Trial 3

So we upgraded the structure and made a new model. However, it only held 3 books. It was extreamly strong but unstable and we could not stable it at all. Were completely crushed. But it was the strongest model ever!

Final

I chose the first structure's model. Even the joints were crushed, we tried to strengthen the joints by adding more white glue to the joints. Anywayes this model could hold 11 books.

Reflection

I would make the joins stronger and use tape) The final design collapsed because we could not balansed it but the really 1st was passed 11 boks the last only 3. We need to work on the design and make much more balance structres to hold much more books.
