Naked EGG Drop
Objective:
-
Use Engineering Design Process (Plan, Design, Test, Evaluate, Redesign)
-
Demonstrate model construction skills
-
Work with the team
Purpose:
-
Create a box that can catch a raw egg and prevent it from breaking.
Materials:
-
A4 Paper
-
Tape
Requirements:
-
Structure length or width maximum: 50 cm
-
Structure must be able to stand within a 50x50 cm square pad.
-
Use only specified materials
-
2 Trial Drops must be completed before the Final Drop
-
A drop that results in lost materials will be given a zero score for that drop.
Evaluation:
- Our group's structure was a opened top, box. We put paper shavings to soften it was our idea we 1st investigate it and after that everyone started to copy us! On top of the box we made a close and open "doors", so egg should go down and go inside and perhaps reduce the velocity.
- Our raw egg and test egg both survived, bounsed back to the grownd but it did not crushed or cracked :)
- I am thinking about making a box, then putting a tape net which will reduce dropping an egg and also put cylinders in the corners on the bottom outside of the box. I hope our eggs survive or spend a good time!)
Evaluation2:
- What are you surprised about most?
I am surprised that the egg survived by jumping out of the box! I thought that the egg will crack.
- Explain how your test egg did/or did not survive?
Our egg survived because the ground was fake grass and it's soft.
- What would you design differently to make the structure succeed/become better next time?
I would make paper balloons, cylinders and soft paper and use it to cushion the egg's fall.
